Job Description:
|
The Physical Therapy Assistant is responsible for directing, modifying and administering the physical therapy modalities of treatment as supervised by the staff physical therapist. Administers treatments and physical agents as directed by the staff physical therapist, after the physical therapist has evaluated the patient. The PTA aids with the restoration of patient functioning to prevent disability following injury, disease or physical disability. Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning, while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities.

Job Prerequisites:
|
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
1. A.A. degree from a school or college approved by the American Physical Therapy Association.
2. Holds current state certification as Physical Therapy Assistant.
3. Current BCLS (CPR) certification.

Job Responsibilities:
|
1. Provides treatment as directed by the staff physical therapist. Adheres to standards of physical medicine practice.
2. Observes and evaluates treatment affect. Discusses observations with staff physical therapist.
• Performs components of an appropriate assessment on each patient, as related to the therapy requested and provided and reassessments as per policy. This includes patients on Medical/Surgical/Telemetry Unit, Long Term Care, Home Health and Outpatients.
• Assists with formulation of a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and assesses effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching, as appropriate. Staff physical therapist is advised of conclusions.
3. Demonstrates knowledge of physical therapy modalities.
4. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
5. Identifies and addresses psychosocial needs of patients and family.
6. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
7. Maintains departmental cleanliness and safety.
8. Interacts professionally with patient, family and involves patient; family in the formation of the plan of care.
9. Wears identification while on duty.
• Completes in-services and returns in timely fashion.
10. Attends Committee, QI, and Care Planning meetings, as appropriate.
LANGUAGE SKILLS:
1. Ability to read and communicate effectively in English.
2. Additional languages preferred.
3. Strong written and verbal skills.
OTHER SKILLS:
1. Basic computer knowledge.
2. Knowledge of physical medicine, physical therapy modalities, anatomy and physiology.
3. Knowledge of physical therapy machine operation, maintenance and repairs of the same.
