Job Description:
|
The Nurse Manager of Long Term Care (LTC) is responsible to assist the Director of LTC in the provision of optimal nursing care to LTC residents according to current Medicare and Medicaid Regulations. Carry out special projects as assigned by the Director of LTC.

Job Prerequisites:
|
SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. Function effectively as the MDS Coordinator.
2. Plan, organize, direct, supervise, evaluate and teach personnel using progressive leadership strategies.
3. Work well with people at all levels.
4. Competence in Medical/Geriatric nursing.
5. Good written and verbal communication skills.
6. Computer literacy.
7. Ability to collaboration with regulatory bodies, division of Aging, or other public authorities to meet standards or report deviations, as required by regulations.
8. Able to pass high efficiency respirator fit and use program as required by OSHA Volume 58, #195.
9. Referral and relationship development skills
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:
1. Knowledge of LTC nursing theory and practice.
2. Experience working with LTC - MDS software.
3. Microsoft Word literate.
4. Current Nevada State License.
5. CPR and ACLS certified.
6. Minimum Three (3) years of LTC nursing care experience.
7. Minimum One (1) year of management, leadership and teaching experience.

Job Responsibilities:
|
1. Assists the Director of LTC to ensure the delivery of effective care for LTC residents and safe staffing, 24-hours / 7 days a week. This includes assisting with; planning, and directing unit activities, staffing, development and implementation of policies and procedures, maintaining and improving the quality of patient care, assuring compliance with established standards, practices, and regulatory requirements by all LTC personnel.
2. Assists in the assessment of potential residents for appropriateness of admission to service.
3. Assists in ensuring compliance with established standards and procedures, safety, environmental and infection control, quality assurance/improvement and other regulatory requirements.
4. Assists in establishing and maintaining a mutually supportive relationship with the Medical Staff and with other departments.
5. Assists in identifying educational needs and assists in providing and/or promoting appropriate staff education and development clinically and professionally.
6. Encourages all nursing staff to participate in staff education, attend required meetings, and cross-train to other departments, as appropriate to their skills.
7. Assists in ensuring all equipment in safe working condition; makes recommendations as needed to Director of LTC regarding equipment replacement and purchases.
8. Assists in investigating new products, equipment and techniques and makes recommendations to Director of LTC.
9. Responds appropriately to complaints from residents, family, employees, Medical Staff and takes appropriate action and follows-up to ensure that complaints have been satisfactorily resolved.
10. Provides direct resident care. For example: in staffing emergencies may need to take a “patient” assignment and is to assume leadership role in clinical emergencies. Also will provide direct resident care when introducing and teaching new techniques, products and equipment, etc.
11. Promotes public relations and demonstrates exemplary customer service. May participate in community education and in hospital public relations programs as requested.
12. Maintains visitor control and handles visitor concerns.
13. Assists the Director of LTC to prepare reports, maintain records, compile statistics, etc. as directed/ required. Assists in maintaining department files.
14. Maintains professional growth and development to keep abreast of nursing and leadership domains. Maintains professional affiliations, attends outside conferences, seminars and workshops.
15. Assists the Director of LTC in the evaluation and disciplinary actions of employees in LTC.
16. Performs other reasonable duties as assigned by the immediate supervisor.
17. Effectively assumes the MDS Coordinator role when needed.
18. Develops and carries out referral development activities on a regular and ongoing basis. Particular emphasis on developing relationships with hospital case managers and hospitalist physicians.
