Reviews all claims before releasing them for proper billing information to include, but not limited to, the sources of admission, type of admission, accident date, insurance and employment information, discharge date, patient status, and relationship of patient to the insured, charges, releases various claims at appropriate time, etc. Follows-up and documents third party payment sources for timely receipt of payments. Processes correspondence and prepares reports as required. Updates and enters data onto hospital information systems. Performs other related duties as needed. Must have knowledge of medical terminology and ICD-9 Coding. Must be a high school graduate.

Sets up payment arrangements and counsels patients on financial matters according to hospital policies and guidelines. Receives other accounts as they become self-pay status and follows-up according to hospital collection policy. Receives regular accounts receivable reports and works each account according to hospital policy, which includes collection calls and/or collection letters. May become involved in filing small claims suits against patients who have not paid their bills in a timely manner. Deals with collection agencies in reporting payments, canceling accounts, etc. Makes numerous calls to insurance companies inquiring as to why payments have not been sent and inquires as to when payment will be received. Must have a minimum of two years collection experience in a hospital or medical office setting. Must be a high school graduate.
